Mission

Policy planning, plan implementation, coordination, and monitoring for the sustainable development in the North western province


Objectives

The objectives of the North -Western Provincial Planning and Monitoring Division and the activities carried out to achieve them are listed below

  • Preparation of Short -term and long term development plans according to the needs of the province.
  • Identify the financial resources needed for the next year during the course of the last quarter of the current year.
  • Obtain development proposals from the relevant Ministries, Departments and Institutions, in accordance with identified criteria and financial allocations, after approval of the provincial Council Annual Budget.
  • Study development proposals during the month of January and categorize and approve the selected proposals and forward them to the relevant department and institutions for implementation.
  • Prepare the annual provincial investment plan at the end of the first quarter consisting of the approved development proposals at district and divisional secretariat levels (The Provincial Specific Development Grant , Criteria Based Development Grant proposals of Provincial Ministries, Local Government Institutions and Provincial Council members)
  • Approve necessary amendments of the development proposals before the end of the Second Quarter and implement them.
  • Prepare the monthly progress review formats and forward them to relevant Ministries, together with approved development proposals before end of January.
  • Obtain completed progress reports for the preceding month before the 10th of each month and prepare the Monthly progress report .
  • Prepare the quarterly progress reports by district and province based on monthly progress report.
  • Organize and convene monthly Progress review Meetings at provincial level.
  • Assist to conduct of monthly Progress review meetings at the Divisional Secretariat level and provide solutions to resolve problems.
  • Monitor and evaluate benefits and prepare reports in respect of special development project.
  • Collect data and information annually from divisional Secretariats in an organized manner.
  • Study reliability of information and computerize analyze and update relevant reports accordingly.
  • Update and maintain the Operation Room and assist to maintain Operation Rooms in divisional secretariats.
  • Disseminate data and information as needed of other Ministries and institutions.
  • Maintenance of efficient and effective administration in the general office in order to provide maximum service to the people.
  • Prepare and circulate monthly staff reports by adhering to specific standards and targeted dates
  • Make payments for traveling allowance, overtime and other allowance of the officers in the planning unit. Make payments for the traveling allowance of the Assistant Directors (Planning) / other relevant officers related to provincial planning activities attached to the Divisional Secretariats
  • Ensure proper maintenance of the advance account in order to expedite payments.
  • Update and maintain personal files and enhance the efficiency of officers through performance Assessment

Coordinating and Monitoring the following development programmes.

  • Implementation of Five Year Development Plan - North Western Province
  • Implementation of Gemi Aruna Programme
  • Implementation of Backward Zone Development Programme
  • Conduct of Management Information System

Future Targets......

Establish a Computer network by incorporating all computers in the Institution with a focus on development needs.

  • Identification of development needs in the province and dissemination of correct data and information for planning by updating and computerizing the present data base.
  • Ensure sustainable development in the North Western Province by utilizing the development priorities as identified and highlighted in the Five Year Plan.
  • Preparation and Implementation of development plans in conformity with changing central and provincial government policies.
